The kitchen. It’s one of the most important spaces in your entire house. It’s also one of the spaces in which you will spend the most time. That’s why cleaning your kitchen (and cleaning it right!) is very important. In this article, we are going to talk about all the different things you need to clean in your kitchen in order to keep it in tip-top shape.
The first thing (and one of the most important) is your kitchen sink. Because we rely on our sink for fresh water, it’s very important that no contaminants or grime get in the way of our cooking. Grime and bacteria are not good to digest and can lead to poor health, so we must do a thorough job of cleaning our sink.
We must scrub down the faucet, the basin of the sink, and all control knobs for the faucet. Warm soap and water, along with a sponge or scrubbing pad, work excellently to eliminate all normal types of gunk that we may find on these surfaces. It’s especially important to make sure that we scrub for mold around the entrance of the water faucet, as it’s very prone to growing here due to moisture. Once we have thoroughly scrubbed down our sink, it’s very important to then rinse all grime down the drain. Once this is done, we have successfully achieved a thorough cleaning of our sink.
Next up, we must clean our countertops. We place a great many things on these surfaces, such as food, utensils, napkins, paper towels, etc. Since all of these items will come in direct contact with our kitchen countertops, it’s essential that the surface is spick and span. Luckily, cleaning off our countertops is an easy task and one that usually does not require much effort. Like cleaning a sink, warm soap and water do an excellent job of cleaning it off. One such scrubbing device that does an excellent job of cleaning is a Scrub Daddy! This nifty little sponge will achieve very high-quality results for all of your cleaning needs.
Thirdly, we must do a deep cleaning of our oven. Because we use this to cook various types of food, they can get VERY dirty. We must open up our oven and remove all racks and shelves in order to do a proper job of cleaning. You may require a hard-bristled brush or a medium-hardness scrubbing pad to really get the grime off of there.
Additionally, ovens will get a very heavy build up of grease. Because of this, it is highly recommended to use a heavy-duty degreaser to help break down all the gunk and grease in your oven. We must also apply this cleaning process to our shelves and cooking racks as well, since those will also most likely be dirty.
On top of cleaning our ovens, we must also clean our microwave. This should not take super long and usually does not require any specialty chemicals in order to clean. Removing the plate on the bottom of the microwave and cleaning off that and the microwave itself will usually suffice. Again (like the countertops and sink), we can use soap and warm water on any type of sponge in order to clean off these surfaces.
Finally, we clean off the cabinets. Usually, the biggest buildup of dirt on our cabinets is dust. We can simply use a duster or a paper towel with water in order to clean off our cabinets. It’s important to do this to reduce the amount of contaminants we are breathing in and to try to prevent these things from getting into our food.
And there you have it. Those are some of the most important surfaces to clean off in your kitchen and how to clean them. Of course, there are plenty of other things that need to be regularly cleaned off as well however that is a topic for another day.
